When a pack of bullies pursues thirteen-year-old Violet Strong, a prayer to her dead father sends her soaring into the sky.  The local papers dub her the Amazing Flying Girl, but the rest of her life is not so easy.  An evil witch's curse means the women of Violet's family can't get married until Violet is kissed by a boy - and she's never even been on a date!  Even worse, her father's killer, recently escaped from prison, has been spotted burglarizing houses in her neighborhood.

 

Conquering gravity was the easy part.  Violet must live up to her 'Amazing' title if she and her friends are going to track down her father's killer without getting hurt.  Time is of the essence as Violet struggles to both capture the killer and convince Darrell - the cutest boy she's ever met - to ask her to the seventh grade ball.
